The Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions (AWED) is an informal coalition of individuals and organizations interested in improving national, state, and local energy & environmental policies. Our basic position is that technical matters like these should be addressed by using real science.
Instead of a science-based approach, our energy and environmental policies are typically written by those who stand to economically or politically profit from them. As a result, anything genuinely science-based in these policies is usually inadvertent and accidental.
A key element of AWED’s efforts is public education. Towards that end, every 3 weeks we put together a newsletter to balance what is found in the mainstream media about energy and environmental matters. We appreciate MasterResource for their assistance in publishing this information.

“All of The Sensible”
Our proposed national energy slogan is “All of the Sensible” (in contrast to the absurd “All of the Above”). Once legislators have grasped that concept, the foolishness of the “leveling the playing field” idea also becomes apparent. (Should the 18-wheeler trucks and golf cart playing field be leveled?)
Additionally we should be using the term “unreliables” when speaking of renewables. [U.S. citizens should make sure to get up-to-speed with what is on our PTCFacts.Info pages, as the Production Tax Credit is still a political issue.]

Prior AWED newsletters this year at MasterResource:
Thank you for providing this enormously valuable resource!
The key point about wind energy is that it does not shut down fossil fuel power stations. Instead, it makes them essential to provide power when the wind fails to deliver.
I notice that Master Resource runs an ad by General Electric promoting wind power. {Ed: this is a misunderstanding. See correction below.}
John: Keep up the good work.
Dr. Lightfoot says he noticed that “Master Resource runs an ad by General Electric promoting wind power.” I quickly perused the site, but did not see the ad he referred to. My family has been boycotting GE products for years now – as well as anybody else that advertises for wind energy – including “Government Motors”.
Dr. Lightfoot:
I know nothing about “I notice that Master Resource runs an ad by General Electric promoting wind power.”
We do not advertise, so please clarify what you meant.
Recent Energy And Environmental News – June 24, 2013…
There is an important UPDATE in this current post, and this Update is further information following the Climate Change speech from President Obama. By John Droz, Jr. ~ Quiz: See how many of the “Mad Men” you know. (BTW, I’ve never smoked…
To everyone: Re my comment of { 06.24.13 at 11:37 am }:
John Droz has explained to me that the GE ad was not on the Master Resource web site. If you go to “Positive news: Ontario ends its FIT program” and click on it, you go to a different website: tinyurl.com/k78y26k. It has the GE ad on the right hand side.
Sorry for the confusion on my part.
Regards.
