“The Energy Poverty Project (EPP) is an international organization that advocates for minimizing burdensome regulations, promoting human health, combating energy poverty, and improving the quality of life for all people regardless of their race or community.”
Derrick Hollie, head of Reaching America and host of Reaching America on Demand, is a man to watch. And his Energy Poverty Project has the capability and promise to change the debate, reorienting ESG and getting corporate America to think in terms of consumers and taxpayers first.
Hollie has been profiled before at MasterResource. His credentials and motivations are impeccable. He says what he means and means what he says. He is a voice for the future and for the majority of his fellow citizens.
The three major planks of Hollie’s new Energy Poverty Project read:
Energy Poverty
OVER 10 MILLION PEOPLE WHO LIVE WITHIN THE U.S. HAVE HIGHER ENERGY COSTS DUE TO GREEN ENERGY POLICIES
Higher prices caused by shifting from affordable energy to more expensive politically preferred forms of renewables or ‘green’ energy has a disproportionate and devasting impact on the poor.
Energy Poverty occurs when low income families and individuals can’t afford basic heating and gas needs due to high energy prices. And while Energy Poverty has no color it disproportionately impacts minority, low income, and rural communities the most.
By some estimates, The Green New Deal would cost $600,000 per household. Energy Poverty also extends to environmental policies which artificially inflate the cost that economically disadvantaged pay for gasoline, transportation along with other goods and services.
Affordable Energy
EXPENSIVE ENERGY COSTS ARE A BURDEN TO PEOPLE WHO ALREADY STRUGGLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET EACH MONTH
While the gap between energy consumption and energy generation continues to increase, having access to affordable and reliable energy will be essential to improving the quality of life for individuals and communities across America.
The U.S. has an abundance of natural resources including coal, oil and natural gas. These resources will provide lower energy costs for Americans, protect our energy security and further strengthen our energy independence.
Energy makes life better and the industry has a great record of providing economic benefits to those Americans who need it the most.
Energy Exploration
TOGETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF
AFFORDABILITY, LOW POLLUTION, ANDRELIABILITY
There are very few industries that are as critical to America’s economy than energy exploration and life as we know it, would not exist without energy. Energy exploration takes place all around the word including here at home. It is the process to discover our natural resources including oil and gas and having the technology to extract it for our human need.
Today the United States leads the world in production and refinement of natural gas and oil. Energy exploration delivers major economic benefits to consumers and the manufacturing industry. Outdated regulations and unwarranted fear have kept roughly 94 percent of the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf closed to energy production.
By exploring and possibly tapping into our nation’s oil and gas deposits we can look to provide long-term reliable energy solutions. And producing more energy in America would reduce energy prices for everyone, boost our economy and provide jobs for communities that need it the most.
Conclusion
Energy economists have long noted the regressive effect of higher energy prices on lower-income users. Energy is an essential, not a luxury. Al Gore and John Kerry can consume massive quantities of energy and not notice (and even support) higher prices; not so for the masses. Derrick Hollie represents the masses.
