The Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions (AWED) is an informal coalition of individuals and organizations interested in improving national, state, and local energy & environmental policies. Our basic position is that technical matters like these should be addressed by using Real Science (see WiseEnergy.org for more).
For public education, every three weeks at MasterResource we offer this newsletter to balance what is found in the mainstream media about energy and environmental matters.
There is very positive news this cycle:
1- The best news in a long time is about the 12± year brawl to stop the ridiculous Cape Wind project. It finally seems to be fatally wounded, due to a combination of economic, legal and political matters. Kudos to those warriors who stuck with the fight, through thick and thin.
2- Also sensational news is the almost unanimous vote by the West Virginia state legislature to kill their RPS — the first state to actually do this. On that same note, this Reason Foundation Report came out blasting the inadequacies of such RPS mandates. And yet another report also came out on the same topic: How Lawmakers Can Lower Your Electric Bill.
3- The US Department of Defense filed a formal objection to a proposed Maryland wind project, claiming it was a threat to national security. To our knowledge this is the first time the DoD has been emboldened to take a firm stance against the “politically correct” wind energy charade. Hopefully the military will have similar courage in the future.
4- Dr. Robert Lackey gave an exceptional talk, about Scientists being biased. This is one of the most important issues of our times, and it is rare that it is spoken about so candidly. (Here is the preferred audio version.)
5- And in a continuation of great news, I came across the Changing Minds website. I’ve never seen a site with so much exceptional Public Relations related information. As we are repeatedly reminded: the wind energy fight is ultimately a PR matter.

Our proposed national energy slogan is “All of the Sensible” (in contrast to the absurd “All of the Above”). Once legislators have grasped that concept, the foolishness of the “leveling the playing field” idea also becomes apparent. (Should the 18-wheeler trucks and golf cart playing field be leveled?) Additionally we should be using the term “unreliables” when speaking of renewables. Please pass these on. [US citizens should make sure to get up-to-speed with what is on ourPTCFacts.Info pages, as the PTC is still a political issue.]
Please pass this information on to other open-minded, science-oriented people. If you know anyone who would like to periodically like to get AWED emailings, please email me.
