The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) is a feisty bunch. Their global warming realism team of Marlo Lewis, Myron Ebell, Chris Horner, and William Yeatman is crack.
And really, who would you rather have a beer with: Marlo Lewis or that guy Joe Romm over at Climate Progress? Heck, Marlo might bring his Mandolin and Old Town Tradition band to entertain you!
I think we win the ‘good guys’ award in the highly contentious global warming debate, not only the intellectual case for climate livability and public policy inactivism.
And so I bring attention to the worthy initiative of Fred Smith and CEI to counter the silly turn-off-the-lights Earth Hour with its 4th Annual Human Achievement Happy Hour this Saturday March 31.
Leave the nights on, and celebrate in the intellectual tradition of Julian Simon, by all means!

Letter from Fred Smith
I’m writing to give you a personal invitation to stop by the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s offices on March 31st, 2012 to celebrate our annual Human Achievement Hour with the CEI staff.
On that Saturday, some individuals, business, and governments will shut off their lights for one hour as a symbolic vote against global climate change. We think this sends the wrong message and represents a rejection of human innovation and progress. CEI, as you can imagine, feels just a little bit different about humanity.
Instead, join us for an annual celebration of individual freedom and appreciation of the achievements and innovations that people have used to improve their lives throughout history. CEI will be hosting its 4th Annual Human Achievement Happy Hour at our headquarters from 8pm to 11pm on Saturday, March 31st. Our offices are located at 1899 L Street NW, Floor 12, Washington, DC 20036.
If you can’t make it to CEI HQ, you can also utilize one of man’s greatest achievements – the Internet – to join CEI’s in-house party, which will live stream at CEI.org beginning at 8:30 pm EST.

Democratic societies are enabled by a foundation of reliable, secure, plentiful, and affordable electricity, made possible by well-understood, relatively simple technologies. Increased electricity costs should only be justified for reasons of improved health and civility wrought by proven technological innovation.
The politicalization of electricity should be resisted at every turn, not least by government, whose task should be confined to enforcement of policies that make healthful electricity plentiful for all at the cheapest possible cost.
