Last year a Montana Democratic Party spokesperson told the media “The Montana Democratic Party welcomes all voices to participate in the Democratic process — unlike the Montana GOP, which… has a record of trying to remove third-party candidates from the ballot.”
So when the Montana Green Party turned in enough signatures to qualify for the ballot this year, what do you think the Democrats did?
It may surprise you, but the Democrats’ actions were the exact opposite of their words. They immediately launched an all-out attack, bringing in big money international corporate law firm Perkins and Coie in an effort to throw the Greens off the ballot.
This is the same law firm that told the court in the DNC fraud class action lawsuit brought by Bernie Sanders supporters that the Democratic Party is a private organization with no obligation to follow its own rules about holding an impartial primary, and that the DNC could have chosen its candidate in a smoke-filled back room if they wanted.
After the Democrats’ lawyers complained about technical irregularities with a handful of the over 7,000 signatures verified by local election officials, a district judge ordered the Montana Green Party off the ballot. But they’re not done fighting yet!
On August 13th, the Montana Greens filed suit in federal court challenging the state’s overly demanding ballot access requirements as unconstitutional.
Their fightback has been inspiring, but it’s likely to be a hard legal fight and they will need help….
It has been rewarding and inspiring to see Greens rising up around the country to lead the charge for an America, and a world, that works for all of us. Let’s stand with them. Together, we are unstoppable.
Democrats want the Green Party to disappear in competitive elections. Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe four days before the election tweeted:
“PLEA TO GREEN PARTY CANDIDATES EVERYWHERE: Please consider dropping out and endorsing the Democrat in your race — unless you truly believe your environmental values would be better served by leaving an unchecked Trump to despoil our green earth,” Tribe said on Twitter.
When asked about his initiative, Tribe stated (E&E News: November 2, 2018):
Even if the Green Party doesn’t find the Democrat ideal, it would be better than having a Republican Senate and House, leaving Trump completely unchecked to proceed to basically destroy the planet.
“Destroy the planet”? If this is really the case, the (timid) Democrat Party should be bad and the (radical) Green Party good to just about any Progressive. In any case, the The Malthusian virus is alive and well in Harvard-land.
The Green Party is thoroughly Statist. They provide competition to the climate-alarmist wing of the Democrat Party. But both are all about POWER, which means Big Government at home and globally. It is a scary thought.
